Their latest endeavour, ‘Rapid Ί ³ ³Ί Foray’, slots seamlessly into not only the Ί ³ ³Ί band’s back catalogue, but sits as a true Ί ³ ³Ί contender for ‘best album’ amongst the rising Ί ³ ³Ί volume of albums released by their Ί ³ ³Ί contemporaries. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί From the start of the album, you are treated to Ί ³ ³Ί an infectious and instant dose of power metal Ί ³ ³Ί that launches you head first into the nautical Ί ³ ³Ί imagery that the band prides themselves on Ί ³ ³Ί adopting. “Black Skies Red Flag”, “Warmongers”, Ί ³ ³Ί and “Black Bart” are all tremendously anthemic, Ί ³ ³Ί and seemingly written to grab that maximum Ί ³ ³Ί attention and appeal. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί The album structure also beautifully captures Ί ³ ³Ί the best aspects of the band. By alternating Ί ³ ³Ί tracks with anthemic masterpieces like “Blood Ί ³ ³Ί Moon Rising” and “Into the West”, followed by Ί ³ ³Ί classic power metal melodies like “Stick to Your Ί ³ ³Ί Guns” and “Blood Moon Rising”, the album gains Ί ³ ³Ί an intense momentum that sets in from inception Ί ³ ³Ί and continues until the final notes ring out. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί Running Wild have found a song-writing formula Ί ³ ³Ί that works for them as a band, and have refined Ί ³ ³Ί this over their career. Perhaps one of the Ί ³ ³Ί greatest features of the album is the richness Ί ³ ³Ί and immersive nature of its songs. Those that Ί ³ ³Ί are familiar with Running Wild will already be Ί ³ ³Ί aware of this, but the vast imagery that is Ί ³ ³Ί painted in each of their tracks is something Ί ³ ³Ί that sets them apart from other bands at their Ί ³ ³Ί inception, and which continues to set them apart Ί ³ ³Ί to this day. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί There is a lot of depth to this album, which Ί ³ ³Ί particularly stems from the rich guitar tones Ί ³ ³Ί that are present on most tracks, even taking Ί ³ ³Ί centre-stage on instrumental track “The Depth of Ί ³ ³Ί the Sea”. The musicianship is beautifully Ί ³ ³Ί constructed across each track, and - although Ί ³ ³Ί there is plenty of music to listen to on the Ί ³ ³Ί album - the sheer brilliance of the song just Ί ³ ³Ί leaves you wanting more. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί As a way to perfectly close out the album, “Last Ί ³ ³Ί of the Mohicans” does what very few tracks can Ί ³ ³Ί do. Seemingly built out of thousands of small Ί ³ ³Ί parts, the track presents itself as the perfect Ί ³ ³Ί statement of the band’s career to this stage. Ί ³ ³Ί With some scintillating sections, this song is Ί ³ ³Ί an absolutely momentous and memorable musical Ί ³ ³Ί moment that stands tall in an album that Ί ³ ³Ί contains many memorable sections, and is Ί ³ ³Ί definitely an apt closing to the affair. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί As a band that has continued to remain relevant Ί ³ ³Ί for 40 years, true credence must be paid to Ί ³ ³Ί Running Wild, as they have continued to Ί ³ ³Ί consistently deliver without compromising the Ί ³ ³Ί sound which has come to endear their fans. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί With ‘Rapid Foray’, Running Wild have released Ί ³ ³Ί an album with a vigour and panache that would Ί ³ ³Ί put a lot of their younger competitors to shame. Ί ³ ³Ί While this album doesn’t offer anything Ί ³ ³Ί contrastingly different to what can already be Ί ³ ³Ί sourced on the market, it is a deserved entry Ί ³ ³Ί into collections for not only long-running fans Ί ³ ³Ί (pun intended) of Running Wild, but also people Ί ³ ³Ί wanting to acquaint themselves with this Ί ³ ³Ί remarkable band.
