No singles were pulled from the album, and no tracks have turned up on various Brown compilations, as well.... The release, by the always excellent Now Again label, comes in a digipak with a booklet authored by Brown confidant/expert Alan Leeds that explains the genesis of this one-of-a-kind "psychedelic underground" attempt on Brown''s part, and his fortuitous hook-up with soon to be arranger mainstay Dave Mathews. It also delves into the connection with Matthews' experimental fusion album The Grodeck Whipperjenny . SHO IS FUNKY DOWN HERE is NOT "James Brown direct(ing) the James Brown Band," he asked Matthews to come up with the music and its recording, he only later played keyboards over four of the tunes. With the success of "Sex Machine" and In the middle of switching to Polydor, Brown lost interest in this experiment to break into the white psychedelic market, and pursued other avenues.
