Gegründet von Glady im zarten Alter von 14 schlossen sich ihr großer Bruder Merald "Bubba" Knight, ihre Schwester Brenda Knight, sowie ihr Cousin und ihre Cousine William und Elenor Guest der Gruppe an. Der größte Hit der Gruppe war "Midnight Train to Georgia". Although they left Motown (actually Soul) shortly after they cut this album, Gladys Knight & the Pips were at their performing peak during the early '70s. This magnificent title track featured stunning vocals by Knight and equally effective backing vocals from the Pips, and had several other outstanding songs on it. To have the foresight and ability to find a country song and turn it into an R&B soul classic proves that Gladys Knight and the Pips are truly an amazing musical entity. On top of that this album has ,"daddy could swear, I declare." Gladys also does a beautiful version of, "for once in my life." The remainder of the songs for this album, which are relatively unknown, are done with Gladys' magic touch This album came out in 1973 and her voice was as exquisite as ever maybe even better. If you want great R&B soul music you can't go wrong with "neither one of us."
