Soul

Gwen McCrae (n�e Mosley, December 21, 1943, Pensacola, Florida, United States) is an American singer, best known for her 1975 hit "Rockin' Chair". Gwen was the youngest of five children, She began performing in local clubs as a teenager, and singing with local groups like the Lafayettes and the Independents. In 1963, she met a young sailor named George McCrae, whom she married within a week.
On 2 June 2012, after performing on stage, Gwen McCrae had a stroke in her hotel room in England, which resulted in paralysis on the left side of her body and the inability to walk.

This album from the HSM label (Henry Stone Music, former T.K. Records) is kind of a "best of" of 14 T.K. hits from the 70's, sung in 2006 by Gwen McCrae. Many of the songs are sung along with the original artists.
Gwen in fine form with many of the musicians she recorded with 40 years ago. Gwen doesn't just copy the hits she is singing here, she adds to them. The musicians on this album are top-notch: Little Beaver, Timmy Thomas and one of my favorites, Latimore, who does a fine rendition of his hit "Let's Straighten It Out" with Gwen. Never get tired of hearing his keyboard intro to that song.
