Especially For You (1977) This self-contained Detroit group's debut for ABC Records has some good moments but is not as pleasing as later efforts. "I Got a Notion, You Got the Motion" is the obvious pick, but it only stands out because the other tracks are lacking, especially the two with the word "Disco" in their titles. Remakes of "Feelings" and "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" displays potential that didn't ignite until they became One Way and started recording for MCA Records. 1 I Got A Notion You Got The Motion 3:38 2 Real Love 3:31 3 You're So Wonderful 2:40 4 Feelings 5:55 5 Baby Let Me Love You 3:20 6 Trying To Prove My Love 2:38 7 Disco Lover 2:47 8 Let's Disco 2:35 9 When Something Is Wrong With My Baby 2:36 10 If You Feel Like Dancin' 2:41 Cherish (1977) Al Hudson and the Soul Partners are not a traditional vocal group lineup, though they sound like one. The personnel are Al Hudson (lead vocals), Kevin McCord (lead vocals & bass guitar), Cortez Harris (vocals & guitar), Jack Hall (piano), and Theodore Dudley, Jr. (drums). This eight-song collection is stuffed with ballads. Al Hudson sings in a gospel-inspired tenor that's more commonly heard on recordings produced below the Mason-Dixon line.Kevin McCord has one of the coolest falsettos in soul music; it's similar to the false voice of the late William Powell (O'Jays). The title track is an epic ballad that reveals Hudson's roots; "Tripped, Slipped, Stumbled and Fell" is a classic '60s love song that features Hudson, McCord, and Cortez Harris on vocals. The material could be stronger; still, it's well executed by the Detroiters. 11 Like Everything About You 2:40 12 Survivors Of Love 3:44 13 Cheating Is A No No 6:19 14 Why Must We Say Goodbye 3:40 15 Tripped, Slipped, Stumbled And Fell 3:44 16 Cherish 5:22 17 If You Get Caught 3:34 Bonus Tracks 18 Feelings (7" Version) 3:53 19 If You Feel Like Dancin' (12" Version) 6:14 mp3 320
