Johnny Shuggie Otis (born Johnny Alexander Veliotes Jr.; November 30, 1953) is an American singer-songwriter, recording artist, and multi-instrumentalist. Born in Los Angeles, California, Otis is the son of rhythm and blues musician, bandleader, and impresario Johnny Otis, who was of Greek descent, and his wife Phyllis Walker, who was of African American and Filipino descent. Otis began playing guitar when he was two years old and performing professionally with his father's band at the age of eleven
Hailed as a young black blues guitar-"wunderkind", he was asked to replace mick taylor of the Rolling Stones, but shuggie had other things in mind.

Inspiration Information is the third album by Shuggie Otis, who produced it and performed most of its instrumental parts. The utilization of analog drum machines gave Inspiration a newer electric sound that at the time was being used by only a handful of Otis' contemporaries, notably by Sly Stone. The Guardian called the album "an intoxicating blend of psychedelic soul and folky introspection, marked by a prescient use of electronics."[5] Pitchfork describes the sound of the album as a combination of "smooth, organ-driven California funk, quasi-new age psychedelia, loungey jazz instrumentals, [and] string interludes-all propelled by the same kind of analog drum machine that had piqued Ralf & Florian's interest at the same time."
Inspiration Information gained a cult following during the 1990s with the emergence of rare groove and acid jazz. It was lauded by such musicians as Prince and Lenny Kravitz.
