Januar 1948), Bonnie (* 11. Juli 1950) und June (* 30. November 1953; gest 11. April 2006) gegründet wurde. Im Dezember 1972 stieg auch ihre älteste Schwester Ruth (* 19. März 1946) mit ein. Die Gruppe wurde zunächst als Nostalgie-Act mit 1940er-Jahre-Jazz, Dixieland und Big-Band-Musik berühmt, später auch mit Funk, R&B und Country. Zu ihren bekanntesten Hits zählen Fire (1978), He's so Shy (1980), Slow Hand (1981), Automatic, Jump (For My Love) und I am so Excited (1984). The Pointer Sisters is the debut studio album by The Pointer Sisters, released in 1973. The Pointer Sisters took their eponymous debut straight to the top of the R&B charts in summer 1973 on the strengths of their penchant for mixing classic '60s R&B with fresh forward-thinking grooves. Add the sisters' harmonies and complex vocal moves, and there's no doubt the group was destined for a fast rise. They gave energy to the Willie Dixon gem "Wang Dang Doodle," a song which quickly became a live set favorite, and also to their own "Sugar." Other high points include "River Boulevard," a mid-tempo vocal that gives way to a light rock riot.
