The band was founded by Byron Byrd in Dayton, Ohio, in 1976. "Let There Be Sun" was Sun's final Capitol album in 1982. After a string of failed singles/albums from 1979 on, The Dayton funksters would come back with one last attempt at securing a "hit" single with the awesomely tight and funky "Slamm Dunk The Ffunk," a bouncy, chugging Rap workout set to music and featuring some of the most incredible synth licks this side of Mercury. Another key cut is "A Love Affair" which also features some of FUNKIEST synths on Earth! "Let There Be Sun," unlike the previous outing "Sun: Force of Nature", introduced an even MORE prominent funky synth flava to their musical palette. The LP was special in two regards: Firstly, it left the corny Star Wars antics behind which, only hindered their success by leaving fans to question their R&B credibility, and secondly, with Early Rap presenting, one would have thought that Sun, TOO, was headed in the right direction. Sadly, the single failed to catch fire and they were dropped from the Capitol roster with less than impressive sales. "Let There Be Sun" was their fourth consecutive commerical failure in spite of the fact that they COULD throw down just as competently as the rest. If you are a fan of Confunkshun, Brick, Ohio Players (Sun, by the way is from Dayton.), The Bar Kays; even Earth, Wind And Fire, Sun sits comfortably within this grouping.
