In 1980. In 2024, The Motels toured as part of the Abducted by the 80's tour across the US and Canada with fellow 80's acts Wang Chung, Men Without Hats, and Naked Eyes. Motels is the first studio album by new wave band The Motels. "Total Control", became a Top 10 hit in Australia and went Top 20 in France. Tina Turner recorded "Total Control" in 1985 on the We Are the World album, a superstar charity recording for famine relief efforts in Ethiopia. Anna Oxa recorded the song in Italian and it was released as a single in Italy in 1980. A good album that brings an edgy New Wave sensibility to LA pop & draws on the influence of Elvis Costello, exploring the hidden side of the Californian dream while the broodingly atmospheric songs exude a mood of excitement & danger. Add on superb guitar, nice sax work & a great vocalist in Martha Davis this is an excellent debut that isn't half bad.
