An American Heavy / Epic Metal band from Auburn, New York. The group is known for lyrics based on fantasy (particularly swords and sorcery) and mythology (particularly Norse mythology). The band is also known for a loud and bombastic sound.  In 1984 the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on 2 occasions. They also hold the world record for the longest heavy metal concert after playing for 5 hours and 1 minute in Bulgaria in 2008. 
Manowar's history began in 1980, when bassist Joey DeMaio met guitarist Ross the Boss while working as a bass tech and fireworks manager for Black Sabbath on the Heaven & Hell Tour.[7] Ross the Boss, a former member of the punk rock band the Dictators, was the guitar player in Black Sabbath's support band, Shakin' Street. The two bonded over their shared musical interests and decided to form a band upon the suggestion of Black Sabbath singer Ronnie James Dio. Following the tour, the duo formed Manowar.[8] To complete the roster, they hired drummer Donnie Hamzik and singer Eric Adams, a former classmate and friend of DeMaio.

Das Ganze hört auf den Namen „Highlights From The Revenge Of Odysseus“ und erzählt wohl (in Auszügen) aus Homer’s „Odyssee“.
Über den Sinn oder Unsinn dieser CD lässt sich trefflich streiten, es wird vermutlich immer noch Fans geben, die das Teil abfeiern werden. Für mich ist „Highlights From The Revenge Of Odysseus“ keinen Deut besser als „The Final Battle I“ und bestätigt eher meine Meinung, dass es für MANOWAR langsam wirklich Zeit wird abzutreten, solange man die Fans der ersten sechs/sieben Alben noch nicht vollends vergrault hat. Und mal ehrlich, wenn das die Highlights sein sollen, will ich den Rest eigentlich gar nicht mehr hören. Siehe meine einleitenden Worte…
